In an effort to effectively manage and reduce white pollution caused by residual plastic films, various methods have been employed, including the use of photolysis membranes, mechanical removal, and manual picking. These approaches aim to clean up the leftover film as thoroughly as possible. While the surface soil up to 5 cm deep has been completely cleared, this task has long posed a challenge for workers and staff. To address this issue more efficiently and promote sustainable agricultural practices, Red Star purchased five pre-soil surface film recycling machines from Xinjiang Tianjiao Bioengineering Company.
According to Li Xueyi, the general manager of Xinjiang Tianjiao Biological Engineering Co., Ltd., the company has spent four years developing these machines. The result is a compact, four-wheel tractor-drawn device weighing 600 kilograms, capable of processing 250–300 acres per day. It can effectively collect residual film on the soil surface at depths of 0–3 cm, with a recovery rate exceeding 80%.
During a 14-day film collection session at Red Star, reporters observed the company’s team—leaders, technicians, and motorcyclists—demonstrating, testing, and discussing the performance of the surface residual film recycling machine before sowing. After seeing the machine in action, the soil surface appeared visibly clean. Participants praised its effectiveness in removing small residual films on the surface, while also suggesting areas for improvement.
Nong Xun Shi Xinghong, the second deputy acting commander, and technician Tang Hua shared their impressions: “Today’s meeting showed that the residual film collection machine works quite well. It can even pick up small remnants of film on the surface, which is very beneficial for soil health and environmental protection.â€
