In addition to this follicular alternation, ovarian cysts can also be a cause of persistent estrus. These cysts may prevent normal ovulation and lead to hormonal imbalances, which further extend the estrus period. While cows with persistent estrus due to follicular alternation might still be fertile and able to conceive when they enter normal estrus, those with ovarian cysts often experience reduced fertility. Therefore, early detection and treatment are crucial in cases where cysts are involved. Proper management and veterinary intervention can help restore normal reproductive function and improve breeding success.
