In a recent update, the Ministry of Health has introduced new guidelines for vascular disease interventional surgery, implementing an "access system" to ensure quality and safety in clinical practice. Starting from now, all medical institutions across the country that wish to perform cardiovascular interventional diagnosis and treatment must first obtain approval from the provincial health administrative department regarding their clinical application capability. Only then can they register for the cardiovascular interventional treatment program. This requirement is clearly outlined in the newly released "Management Specifications for Interventional Therapy for Cardiovascular Diseases."
Cardiovascular interventional diagnosis and treatment involves procedures where doctors access the heart or blood vessels through vascular puncture, such as coronary angiography or stent placement. However, this does not include temporary pacing used for emergency purposes, bedside hemodynamic monitoring, or intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation.
According to the "Technical Regulations for Interventional Diagnosis and Treatment of Cardiovascular Diseases," medical institutions must have performed at least 200 cardiovascular interventions, with no fewer than 100 being actual treatments. They must also maintain a complication rate below 0.5% for angiographic procedures and a mortality rate associated with interventional therapy below 0.5%. These standards are crucial to ensuring patient safety and effective treatment outcomes.
Additionally, physicians who are authorized to perform these procedures must complete a minimum of 50 cases annually. For those specializing in coronary interventions, the number should be at least 50 per year. Those performing catheter ablation must conduct at least 20 procedures yearly, while those involved in pacemaker therapy must handle no fewer than 10 cases. Physicians focusing on congenital heart disease interventions must complete at least 20 procedures each year. Furthermore, any physician aiming to engage in cardiovascular interventions must undergo at least one year of structured training before practicing independently.
These regulations reflect the government's commitment to improving the quality and standardization of interventional cardiology services nationwide. As the field continues to evolve, maintaining high professional standards will remain a top priority.
