The mysteries of the glowing aloe

In recent months, a peculiar variety of aloe has been making waves in the flower markets of several cities. Known as "Aloe Vera nocturnal," this plant glows in the dark and commands a price several times higher than that of the regular "Night City Aloe." The glowing leaves and fleshy spines on the back of the leaves are noticeably larger and whiter, with visible signs of some kind of coating or treatment. Otherwise, the plant appears identical to the standard Night City Aloe. This practice raises concerns about misleading consumers and the ethical implications of artificially enhancing plants for commercial gain. While the glowing aloe may look impressive, it's important to understand the science behind it before making a purchase. Also known as "Breathe," "Acerola," or "Aloe," it is a perennial herb belonging to the genus Aloe. The plant grows up to 30–50 cm tall, with fleshy, green leaves arranged alternately. The leaf margins have yellowish serrated spines, and the surface features scattered pale yellow bumps. The flowers are tubular, orange-red, and bloom from late winter to early spring. There's also a variant called "City of Night," which displays yellow or yellow-white vertical stripes on the leaves. These stripes vary in width and can sometimes cover the entire leaf, but the rest of the plant remains similar to the standard Aloe vera.
