Ecological fermentation bed farming is an advanced agricultural method that uses beneficial microorganisms as the central "converter" of energy and materials. This system relies on principles from microbiology, ecology, fermentation engineering, and animal nutrition to create a sustainable, eco-friendly environment for raising livestock. The success of this system depends largely on the construction and management of the "fermentation bed." A well-maintained fermentation bed not only improves efficiency but also ensures the health of both animals and microbes. Two key principles guide this method:

During cold months, insulation curtains are lowered, turning the pig house into a warm greenhouse. The fermentation bed itself generates heat, helping pigs stay comfortable. In summer, open windows and natural breezes create a cooling effect, keeping the pigs cool and relaxed.
Because of these two principles, the design of the pig house must be carefully planned. Orientation, structure, and type all play a role in creating a comfortable and ventilated space for both pigs and microbes. For example, experts in ecological fermentation bed technology recommend:
First, the direction of the pig house should face south or within 15 degrees of it. This allows optimal sunlight and airflow throughout the year.
Second, the structure should include four types of windows—standard, skylight, and fan windows—to ensure proper ventilation. Many people mistakenly believe that a simple bucket-style fermentation bed is sufficient, but proper ventilation is crucial. The height of the building should be over 3 meters to prevent heat buildup in summer and provide enough space for air circulation.
Third, the type of pig house can vary depending on the local climate. Options include closed, semi-open, open, or greenhouse-style structures, combined with rolling shutters to control temperature and airflow. It's also important to consider water levels, especially in paddy fields, where the ground must be impermeable to avoid moisture issues.
In short, as long as the fermentation bed is built correctly and the principles are followed, even though the core temperature can exceed 50°C, the surface remains around 20°C. Pigs grow in a comfortable, well-ventilated environment, similar to how humans feel under a tree in summer. With good air flow and a balanced climate, there’s no need to worry about the heat from the fermentation bed during summer.
