A few days ago, Dongxiang Wild Rice Research and Development Center was established in the Rice Research Institute of Jiangxi Province. This indicates that the world’s most widely distributed research, conservation and utilization of wild rice has entered the “fast track”. Previously, this rare wild rice resource has caused widespread concern due to the extinction. The Dongxiang wild rice is the most widely distributed wild rice in the world. It is rich in pest and disease resistance genes and extremely cold-tolerant genes. It has excellent cold resistance, drought resistance, waterlogging resistance, disease resistance, etc. . However, with the increase of human activities and changes in the ecological environment, Dongxiang wild rice has been in a state of serious endangerment, and the distribution area has dropped from the initial 30 acres to the current 3 acres. Rice experts believe that the best protection is to accelerate the development and utilization of it, and to strengthen protection through biological gene technology. At present, the Science and Technology Department of Jiangxi Province has organized scientific research forces to use genetic engineering technology to develop the use of Dongxiang wild rice. Jiangxi Province will conduct comprehensive DNA identification of Dongxiang wild rice, detect and analyze complete gene maps, and apply for patents; use the dominant genes of Dongxiang wild rice to cultivate new rice varieties and obtain international patents.
