The Ministry of Commerce recently monitored that the price of vegetables in the country has been lower for two consecutive months. The overall price is lower than the same period of last year. The supply of vegetables in the Wuhan market was sufficient and the prices were steadily rising.

According to Mr. Liu, a wholesaler, their cabbages are all supplied in the province. Although the cabbage in the northern region is cheap, it is not sold due to the high cost of long-distance transportation.

In Guangchang Tuenji, Wuchang, Chinese cabbage costs 1.5 yuan per kilogram and white radish 1.3-1.5 yuan. According to the merchants, the price of Chinese cabbage did not show ups and downs, and the supply of goods was sufficient.

Vegetable wholesale prices rose slightly

On the 20th, the Wuhan Municipal Price Bureau collected prices from 14 bazaars in the seven central city districts. The comprehensive wholesale price of 48 vegetable varieties was 2.36 yuan/kg, which was an increase of 5.75% compared with the same period of last year.

The biggest gainers were Chinese cabbage and white radish, which were 75% and 71% respectively; those that rose between 40% and 60% were Chinese cabbage, cabbage, cauliflower, and white rice. However, the prices of peppers, eggplants, and garlic are declining.

The price of vegetables rose slightly and the public did not feel it was obvious. Ms. Xiao, who buys food at Guang Shen Tun Ji, said that a Chinese cabbage rose by about a dime, which she could still accept.

Two Reasons Drive Up Local Vegetable Prices

Statistics show that the average daily transaction volume of the three major wholesale markets in Wuhan last week was 7.37 million kilograms, all of which had different growth rates.

Agricultural experts also introduced that the recent low temperature and rainy weather have caused certain impacts on the picking and transportation of vegetables. This also directly affects the price of vegetables.
