Lishui Fermented Feeds Duck Dumplings (Southern Liquor) refer to food scraps collected from hotels, restaurants, schools, and factories. These leftovers are low-cost yet highly nutritious, making them an excellent feed for ducks. When treated with the Golden Baby starter, harmful bacteria in the waste are eliminated, and the nutritional value of the material is significantly enhanced, improving the absorption rate by animals. After microbial treatment, the fermented material meets feed standards and is very beneficial for duck health. The fermentation process begins by collecting the waste, which mainly consists of rice (over 50% of the mixture). For every 500 kg of waste, add 50 kg of corn (if not rice-based, increase to 100 kg), 30 kg of soybean meal, or alternatives like rapeseed meal, cottonseed meal, or peanut bran. Add 50–150 kg of rice bran or reconstituted rice bran. The moisture level should be such that when you squeeze the mixture, a few drops of water fall—this ensures proper anaerobic conditions. You can also use straw powder, such as peanut stalks or shells, if available. Include 5 kg of calcium hydrogen phosphate or superphosphate to fill the container completely, leaving no air space. Cover with plastic and secure with a rope, allowing slight ventilation to prevent explosions due to gas buildup. Fermentation typically takes 1–3 days in summer, 3–4 days in spring and autumn, and 4–7 days in winter. Bubbles appear early on, indicating normal fermentation. As time passes, the pH increases, and a mild koji-like aroma develops. When feeding ducks, it's important to add vitamins. For every 100 kg of treated material, add 25 g of vitamins to avoid deficiencies that could affect growth. Before fermentation, there’s no need to remove hard items like toothpicks, bones, or plastic. However, these should be removed before feeding to avoid internal injuries. Bones and raw meat can stay in the mix, as they will break down during fermentation. The material must contain both plant and animal matter, including rice, porridge, or similar items, to support microbial growth. Pure hot pot waste may not ferment well without added energy sources like rice or corn. Fermented materials can also be combined with distillers’ grains, cassava residues, etc., in equal parts. This method has proven effective. Once fermented, store the material in sealed containers, which can last up to six months. Always clean and disinfect the fermentation vessels after each batch to prevent bacterial contamination. For duck feed, combine the fermented material with local ingredients like wheat bran, rice bran, sorghum flour, hay, green fodder, or vegetable byproducts. Replace some standard ingredients based on availability, while ensuring a balanced protein intake. If possible, add 0.05% methionine to broiler diets. Note: Start with small amounts, gradually increasing from 10%. Allow the fermented mixture to sit for at least 30 minutes before feeding to let gases escape.
