Chain saws are one of the most widely used and most frequently used power tools in many park machines. Because it has very sharp saw teeth and is used for high-speed cutting of wood, more stringent safety precautions are required when using its work. Any irregular operation or untimely maintenance will pose a certain safety risk, and users need to pay attention to it. The world's largest chain saw manufacturer, Steele Group's technical experts, summed up a series of chain saw usage and maintenance tips and precautions, and shared them with the readers.

Always ensure the lubrication of the saw chain

The lubrication of saw chains and guides is important for the use of chain saws. The technician said that the saw chain must always have a small amount of oil thrown out, and do not work without the lubrication of the saw chain. If the saw chain runs dry, the cutting tool will soon be damaged and cannot be repaired. Therefore, be sure to check the lubrication of the chain and the amount of oil in the tank before starting work.

In order to provide automatic and reliable lubrication of the saw chain and guides, the technicians recommend the use of high quality, environmentally friendly saw chains and guide plate lubricants, such as lubricants that are resistant to aging and can be rapidly biodegraded. If the anti-aging ability is low, the lubricating oil is easily resinized, and hard precipitates that are difficult to remove may be formed, especially around the saw chain drive, the clutch, and the saw chain. In severe cases, the oil pump will get stuck. In addition, waste lubricants should not be used. Waste lubricants do not have the required lubricity, and repeated exposure to waste lubricants can lead to skin cancer. Waste lubricants can also damage the environment.

Each time you add fuel, you must top up the saw chain lubricant. Make sure that there is some residual lubricant in the chain lubricant case each time the fuel runs out. If the oil tank does not reduce the amount of oil, it may be due to blockage of the oil passage. At this time, check the lubrication condition of the saw chain, clean the oil circuit, and if necessary, ask the service dealer for help.

For newly manufactured tools, avoid unnecessary high-load operation during the run-in period. Therefore, do not perform high-speed idling before the first three boxes of fuel are used up. Since the moving parts must run in each other during the running-in period, the short cylinder has a large frictional resistance during this period. The engine reaches its maximum power after about 5 to 15 tanks of oil have been used. During the normal operation of the chain saw, do not adjust the mixing ratio of the oil too low in order to increase the power significantly. This may damage the engine.

In addition, always check the tension of the saw chain. New saw chains require more frequent tightening than saw chains that have been put into use for a longer period of time. Generally, in the cold state, the saw chain engages on the underside of the guide plate but can still pull along the guide plate by hand, which means that the tension is correct. When the operating temperature is reached, the saw chain expands and begins to relax. Do not allow the underside of the guide plate to exit the guide slot, otherwise the saw chain may come off. If necessary, tighten the saw chain again. When cooling, the saw chain will shrink. At this point to loosen the saw chain, otherwise it will damage the crankshaft and bearings.

Chainsaw usage ignores details

During the use of the chain saw, there are several operating details that require the user's special attention. First, when starting the chain saw, pull the start cord to the end. When starting, gently pull the start lever by hand until it reaches the stop position, then pull quickly and push down on the front handle. The technician said that you should not completely pull the starter rope to the end, otherwise it may be broken. In everyday use, the user often does not pay attention to this detail, and over time, the starter rope is easily damaged. Also note that do not let the starter handle bounce back freely and slowly guide it back into the case so that the starter string can roll up well.

Second, after the engine has been operating at maximum throttle for a long time, it needs to be allowed to idle for a period of time in order to cool the air flow and release most of the heat in the engine. This avoids thermal overload on the components mounted on the engine (ignition device, carburetor).

Again, if the engine power drops significantly, it may be due to dirty air filters. Remove the carburetor box cover, remove the air filter, remove the dirt around the filter, and separate the two parts of the filter, clean the filter with the palm of your hand, or blow it from the inside out with compressed air.

If the filter becomes contaminated, the filter needs to be placed in a dedicated cleaner or a clean, non-flammable cleaning solution (eg, warm soapy water) and washed. Do not use a brush to clean the wool filter.

When reinstalling the air filter, remember to check the position of the damper and the torsion spring.

Late maintenance should be completed in time

The maintenance of the chainsaw is the most important thing in the saw chain. The correctly maintained and sharpened saw chain can be easily sawn into the wood with very little pressure. During routine maintenance, check whether there are cracks and broken rivets on the saw chain links. Replace any damaged or worn parts on the saw chain, and then match the new part with the same shape and size. Carbide saw chains are particularly resistant to wear.

Sharpening of the saw chain can usually be done by service dealers. Sharpening must be maintained when sharpening. All saw teeth must have the same angle. If they are different, the sawing will not be smooth and the wear will be severe until the saw chain breaks. All saw teeth must also have the same length. If it is different, the tooth height will be different. This will also cause the saw chain to rotate unsteadily and eventually break. After sharpening, thoroughly clean the saw chain, clean the stings or dust attached to it, and lubricate the saw chain. If you do not use it for a long time, make sure that the saw chain is stored in a well-lubricated condition.

For storage of chainsaws for long periods of time, empty the fuel tanks in well-ventilated areas and clean them. Always operate the engine before the carburetor dries to prevent the carburetor diaphragms from sticking together. Remove the saw chain and guide plate for cleaning, then spray with rust preventive oil. Thoroughly clean equipment, especially cylinder cooling fins and air filters. If you use a biosaw chain lubricant, fill the tank with oil.

It should be noted that even if the chainsaw is used and maintained as required, certain parts of the power tools will have normal wear and tear. Therefore, they must be replaced in time according to the model and usage of the parts. These parts include: saw chains, guide plates, transmission components (clutch, clutch drum, sprockets), filters, starters, spark plugs, and components of vibration reduction systems.
