Cannibalism is one of the key factors affecting aquaculture success. Broodstock have low larval survival rates due to their feeding habits, and larger shrimp tend to kill smaller ones. Juvenile shrimp are more likely to be eaten than adults, with up to 60% mortality in some cases. To reduce this, artificial shelters like water grass, tiles, pipes, and bamboo tubes should be provided. These help reduce aggression and improve survival rates. Sixth, blind fertilization causes poor water quality. Many farmers use organic and compound fertilizers to grow plankton, but this often leads to oxygen depletion and plant death.
