English name: Dungeness Crab
Common name: Origin and production period of treasure crabs:
Northern California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, British Columbia.
Introduction:

Dungeness Crab's Chinese translation is Jumbo Crab, which is very apt to explain that as an important resource for American crab products, it is indeed a valuable treasure. This crab is large and fleshy, and it is caught in waters from California to Alaska. Today, whether in San Francisco or Shanghai, Jumbo Crabs have a great market demand.
Jeep crab is named after Dungeness, a small town in Washington state. This crab lives only from the Aleutian Islands in Alaska to the waters northeast of Taishiyang in Southern California. Its main production area is concentrated in the offshore waters of Northern California, Oregon and Washington. Other important areas of origin include the Inner Boreal waters of Puget Sound, Washington, South Alaska, British Columbia (BC) and the San Francisco Bay Area.
More than 90% of the crabs in North America are caught by American fishermen. Treasure crabs are highly praised for their high meat yields—up to 24% on average—more than twice the meat yield of the blue crab on the East Coast of the United States.
Most junk crabs are usually sold to supermarkets and restaurants in Vancouver, Canada, and San Diego, USA. Recently, the demand for live treasure crabs in the Chinese market has been increasing. From 1995 to 1999, fresh crabs exported from the United States grew rapidly from almost zero to 25% of total production.
Jenny crab fishing is very volatile. According to the assessment of fisheries experts, the annual production of junk crabs is a cycle every 7 to 10 years. This is very similar to other crab species. The annual output of Japonica Crabs ranges from about 30,000 tons in the high-yield year to about 15,000 tons in the low-yield year.
Only male crabs can be caught (male crabs have a V-shaped ventral or crab umbilicus, while female crabs have a large, round belly cap). The length of the back cover of the treasure crab should not be less than 16 cm, which is equivalent to 500 grams. The treasure crab can reach up to 1.5 kilograms.
Washington State is the main producer of Jeep crabs. In the winter, it can be caught in the sea while the fishing season is in the offshore waters of Puget Bay in summer and autumn. In most years, Washington State’s annual output often exceeds 6,000 tons, and one-third of it comes from offshore fishing. About 4,500 tons are produced in each of Oregon and California. Alaska produces about 2,000 tons, most of which are caught in the waters of Southeast Alaska in summer.
The individual crabs that are caught in the Alaskan waters are much larger than other crabs on the West Coast. The Alaska Treasure crab weighs an average of 1 kilogram. Jelly crabs produced in Washington, Oregon, and California average 700 grams in weight.
The Canadian Jelly Crab is produced mainly in the inner waters of British Columbia and can be harvested throughout the year. Up to 6,000 tons of fish can be harvested each year, but it is usually maintained at 2,500 tons.
Although Jumbo crabs can be harvested throughout the year, 70% of North American production comes from Washington, Legan, and California off-season fishing, from December each year to February. The fishing season usually starts on December 1st, when the jewels are in an active growth period after the fall of shells. After the shell replacement, the individual crabs tend to be full and the meat output rate is increasing. In December each year, the price of Zinnia crabs is the lowest, and fishing is at its peak. Manufacturers are eager to sell as many crabs as possible.

Sales advice. No matter whether it is the old Yushan or the Shangyu, the treasure crab won the favor of seafood gourmets for its pure and slightly sweet taste. December is the best time for the promotion of jewels. At this time, the value of the fishing season is officially established. The price is the lowest in the whole year.
