Artificial feeding of young pigeons, hatched from a machine, is a common practice in pigeon farming. This method not only helps the parent pigeons lay eggs earlier—typically 10 to 20 days sooner—but also increases overall profitability. The key to successful artificial feeding lies in adjusting the diet according to the age of the pigeons, using specific ingredients and feeding techniques.
For the first 1 to 6 days, a thick milk-like feed is prepared using fresh milk, glucose, vitamins, and digestive enzymes. Newborn pigeons can be fed using a 20ml syringe without the needle, connected to a soft tube with small holes. For those aged 4 to 6 days, a small bucket with a hose is used. The bucket is hung above the pigeon, allowing the milk to flow through the tube into the crop when the clip is opened. The amount of food is carefully controlled to avoid overfeeding. It's recommended to feed them four times a day—at 8:00, 11:00, 16:00, and 21:00.
From day 7 to 10, the feed becomes more solid. A semi-thick porridge is made by mixing rice flour, glucose, milk powder, wheat flour, pea powder, protein digestive enzymes, and yeast tablets. This provides better nutrition as the pigeons grow.
Between 11 to 14 days, a liquid feed is introduced, consisting of rice porridge, bean flour, glucose, oatmeal, milk powder, and yeast tablets. This helps the pigeons transition smoothly from liquid to more solid foods.
For pigeons aged 15 to 20 days, a semi-liquid feed is prepared by grinding corn, sorghum, wheat, peas, mung beans, and broad beans, then mixing them with milk powder and yeast tablets. This stage is crucial for their development and strength.
From 21 to 30 days, the feed is similar to that of 15 to 20 days but ground into larger particles and mixed with boiling water to form a slurry. This helps the pigeons adapt to natural feeding methods.
After 30 days, the pigeons can start eating whole grains like corn, sorghum, and peas. By day 31 to 33, they begin to eat on their own, gradually reducing the need for artificial feeding.
Starting at 7 days old, pigeons should be fed three times a day—at 8:00, 15:00, and 21:00—with each feeding providing about 70% to 80% of their full capacity. This ensures they get enough nutrition without overeating. Monitoring their health and growth closely during this period is essential for optimal development.
