Scientists from the University of Urbino, Italy, passed tests in early June 2004 and showed that transgenic soybeans can alter the liver structure of mice. After feeding the mice with genetically modified soybeans, Italian scientists performed single-cell structure and immunocytochemical analysis on the liver cells of the mice. After analysis, it was found that irregular changes occurred in the nuclei of liver cells of mice fed with genetically modified soybeans. After a period of time, the rounded nucleus of the liver became an irregular shape with countless fiber. This change shows that mice have faster metabolism. The scientists concluded that the structure of the liver cells in mice can be changed after feeding the transgenic soybeans. The deep mechanism of this change remains to be further studied by scientists. Because there is still insufficient scientific evidence, scientists cannot conclude that GM foods can directly harm health.
